Help Your Providers Recognize Sana

Seeing a doctor soon? Here's how to let them know about Sana.

If you're seeing your current provider:

See below for instructions on switching your current providers to Sana.

If you're seeing a new provider:

When you're about to see a new provider, it's best that you use our Find Care tool to check and see if they're already taking Sana. And if they're not, you can Invite a Provider prior to your appointment.

If the provider is in the HealthSmart network:

If you're at a doctor or making an appointment, and your provider doesn't recognize your Sana health plan, you can use the following language with your provider to help sort things out:

"Sana Benefits leases the HealthSmart Physician & Ancillary Only network, so Sana members have access to all providers in this network. Claims will be paid by Sana Benefits at the HealthSmart contracted rate. Send all claims to the address listed on the back of the member ID card. Please use the electronic payer ID or the address listed on the back of the member ID card to send claims directly."

If the provider isn't in the HealthSmart network:

If your provider is not in the HealthSmart network, have no fear! You can use the following language with your provider to help sort things out:

"Sana Benefits plans are all-access, which means they consider all doctors in-network and will process claims submitted by any provider. Please use the electronic payer ID or the address listed on the back of the member ID card to send claims directly."

How To Update Your Insurance with Existing Providers

When you switch to a Sana insurance plan, you have two options for notifying your current providers.

Option 1: Invite providers who are not in Sana's Find Care tool

Our Provider Relations team is happy to reach out to any of your non-Healthsmart providers to ensure you're all set for your next visit. Start inviting providers.

Option 2: Contact individual providers

Call or email your providers individually to let them know about your new insurance. We recommend you use the email template below to get your providers all of the information they'll need.

-----Email Template-----

Hello [Provider],

As of [Coverage Start Date], I am no longer covered by [former health plan] and am now covered by Sana Benefits. Sana is a health plan and commercial TPA and may already be in your system even though it doesn't require specific contracting or credentialing.

Sana offers open, all-access plans, meaning they will process and pay claims submitted by any provider or facility. As a Sana member, this means I can continue to visit my favorite providers without penalties for out-of-network rates. Sana also leases the HealthSmart PPO network, so all members have access to those providers. However, if you do not accept HealthSmart, you are still considered "in-network."

Please confirm that you are able to send claims directly to Sana Benefits.
