Understanding Your Group’s HealthSmart Network with Sana

Sana Benefits provides access to two HealthSmart networks:

  • HealthSmart Physician & Ancillary Only Network – Includes approximately 1.2 million provider locations across the U.S.
  • HealthSmart Preferred PPO Network – Expands access to approximately 1.8 million provider locations nationwide, including hospitals and facilities.

Please note: Some health systems in the HealthSmart Preferred PPO, namely Baylor, Scott & White in Texas and Sutter Health in California, require 30 days notice of any new group enrollments. Employees may not have access to these providers if Open Enrollment is not complete and shared with HealthSmart 30 days prior to the Plan’s effective date. How to Check Your HealthSmart Network

To confirm which HealthSmart network you’re in, follow these steps:

✅ Log into your Sana member portal – Your network details are available online.

Talking to Providers About HealthSmart

If a provider is unfamiliar with Sana or HealthSmart, here’s how you can explain your network affiliation:

For the HealthSmart Physician & Ancillary Only Network:

"Sana Benefits provides access to the HealthSmart Physician & Ancillary Only network. Since your practice is in-network, Sana will pay my claims at the HealthSmart contracted rate. Please send my claims to Sana directly using the address and electronic payer ID listed on the back of my Sana member ID card."

For the HealthSmart Preferred PPO Network:

"Sana Benefits offers access to the HealthSmart Preferred PPO network, which includes an expanded selection of providers, including hospitals and facilities. Because my group has chosen this plan, Sana will process my claims at the HealthSmart contracted rate. Please send my claims to Sana directly using the information on the back of my Sana member ID card."

What If My Provider Is No Longer in the HealthSmart Network?

Even if your provider isn’t in the HealthSmart network, Sana’s flexible approach means you can still see them—no penalties, no hassle.

Just let your provider know:

"Sana accepts claims from out-of-network providers without any penalties and welcomes any provider to bill us directly. You can verify my benefits or ask billing questions quickly via chat at sanabenefits.com/chat, Monday through Friday, 7 AM–7 PM Central, or by calling (833) 726-2123. All information is listed on the back of my Sana member ID card."
