When you’re facing a mental health or wellbeing concern for you or someone else, you don’t need to navigate the situation alone. There are helplines and organizations ready to help. Below are a number of national hotlines and support resources you can readily access for a variety of issues.
If you're experiencing a medical emergency, if you or someone else is in immediate danger, or if you feel you're in danger of hurting yourself or others, please call 911.
Mental Health:
- SAMHSA’s National Helpline: SAMHSA’s National Helpline is a free, confidential, 24/7 treatment referral and information service (in English and Spanish) for individuals and families facing mental and/or substance use disorders. Call 1-800-662 HELP (4357).
- Crisis Text Line: This helpline provides free, 24/7, high-quality text-based mental health support and crisis intervention by empowering a community of trained volunteers to support people in their moments of need. A live, trained Crisis Counselor receives the text and responds from a secure online platform. Text HOME to 741741 to connect with a Crisis Counselor or message on Facebook.
- The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: This national network of local crisis centers provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24/7. Call 1-800-273-8255.
- NAMI Helpline: This free, nationwide peer-support service provides information, resource referrals, and support to people living with a mental health condition, their family members and caregivers, mental health providers, and the public. Call 1-800-950-NAMI (6264), Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m., ET, send an email to info@nami.org, or use the direct chat function on the lower right of NAMI Helpline website.

Substance Abuse and Addiction:
- SAMHSA’s National Helpline: SAMHSA’s National Helpline is a free, confidential, 24/7 treatment referral and information service (in English and Spanish) for individuals and families facing mental and/or substance use disorders. Call 1-800-662 HELP (4357).
- Alcoholics Anonymous: Search for an AA meeting and access other resources for problems with alcohol.
- Narcotics Anonymous: Search for a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.
- Gamblers Anonymous: Search for a Gamblers Anonymous meeting or find a hotline in your state.
Physical and Sexual Abuse:
- National Domestic Violence Hotline: Highly-trained, expert advocates offer free, confidential, and compassionate support, crisis intervention information, education, and referral services in over 200 languages, 24/7. Call 1-800-799-SAFE(7233) or text “Start” to 88788.
- ChildHelp: Go to their website find out how to report a child abuse case in your state, and call or text 1-800-422-4453 for additional support and assistance, 24/7. If you believe a child is in immediate danger, please contact 911 for help.
- National Sexual Assault Hotline: Get access to a range of free, confidential services including support from a trained staff member, support finding a local health facility that is trained to care for survivors of sexual assault and offers services like sexual assault forensic exams, someone to help you talk through what happened, referrals for long-term support and more. Call 1-800-656-HOPE (4673), live chat on RAINN website or download RAINN mobile app.
Support for Specific Medical Conditions:
- Diabetes Helpline: Speak to an American Diabetes Association representative who can connect you with appropriate resources for living with diabetes in your area and can answer questions in English, Spanish, or any language with a language interpreter service (non-medical questions only). Call 1-800-DIABETES (800-342-2383) Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 pm ET, or access live chat and email on the website.
- Cancer Support Helpline: This helpline provides guidance, resources, and support to cancer patients and their loved ones with a variety of needs — from getting information about cancer to identifying a local support group, or just finding someone who is willing to listen. Support is provided in over 200 languages. Specialized navigation services are also available by appointment (clinical trials, genetic/genomics, pediatric oncology, financial). - CDC National HIV and AIDS Hotline: CDC’s national health information hotline provides answers to your questions regarding HIV, how to protect yourself, and where to get an HIV test. 1-800-CDC-INFO (232-4636) In English, en Español, 8 am to 8 pm EST, Monday through Friday
